What the hell are we doing still fighting in Afghanistan? 31 more this morning sacrificed on the altar of progressive foreign policy. Even in Vietnam, the ultimate aim was victory, no matter how screwed up the plan, how inept were the commanders and planners. Afghanistan and Iraq linger on, without a rational objective, a little American blood spilled each day in the name of establishing democracy for a population that considers their greatest achievement the move from spears and clubs to Ak-47's and IED's. Only the local papers and TV stations taking note of their own casualties [the funeral is covered, taps is played, the flag is folded and given to the survivors] until a tragic event such as today grabs national headlines for a day or two, and then we go back to sleep, blissfully unaware of the daily cost of national treasure, primarily the lives and well being of the troops, who sacrifice daily. Who, what slimy politician in the WH or congress, speaks for the troops? No one.
