How to Murder a Superpower

By Alan Caruba

It is the crime of the century that America, home to some of the world’s greatest reserves of coal, natural gas and oil, is being deliberately destroyed by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior as they do everything in their power to restrict access and drive energy producers out of business.

It is common sense that a nation that cannot produce sufficient electricity to turn on its lights and power its manufacturing sector will be destroyed if current Obama administration regulations and actions continue. Our vital transportation sector and all others that utilize petroleum-based products will suffer, too.

While President Obama babbles about millionaires and billionaires, everyone will be impoverished by the loss of jobs and revenue our energy sector produces now and can produce in the future.

This isn’t an “energy policy.” It’s a “no-energy policy” and it is a guarantee of economic disaster.

Obama’s decision to reject a permit for Canada’s XL Keystone pipeline is just one example. It is a job-killer and a revenue-killer. There are thousands of pipelines serving America’s energy needs and the XL Keystone pipeline would ensure that Canada’s own vast energy reserves would flow to America. It is one of our key trade partners and Obama has slapped it in the face.

In early January, Ken Salazar, the Secretary of the Interior, announced a new 20-year, million-acre ban on uranium mining for federal lands in Arizona, despite the fact that these lands hold the highest-grade of known uranium deposits in the United States. It is an outrage that a new GOP-Congress will have to overturn if the nation is to be assured of sufficient uranium to power its nuclear plants and for weapons development. If the ban remains, these uranium resources would be inaccessible until 2023!

Tom Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research said that Salazar’s announcement “further compounds a man-made energy crisis that has been planned and executed in Washington, D.C.”

At the same time we are learning of enormous natural gas discoveries that can reduce our energy bills and turn sleeping little towns into boomtowns, environmental organizations have launched a vast propaganda campaign against “fracking”, a technology that has been safely used for more than fifty years. Their claims about dangers to the nation’s supply of fresh water are baseless. Their claims that fracking has caused earthquakes in Ohio are absurd.

Need it be said that the Environmental Protection Agency has turned its eyes on fracking and is working on a report due later this year that will likely call for harsh crackdowns on its use and more regulations to throttle the expansion of natural gas extraction?

The EPA has just released a report of those power plants that top the list of its regulation of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. There is no basis in science to justify the reduction of CO2. Indeed, since it is a gas on which all vegetation depends, much as oxygen is vital to all animal life, reducing it would impair great crop yields and healthier forests.

These regulations are based on the global warming hoax that blamed CO2 for warming the earth. That is utterly false. The Earth is currently in a perfectly natural cooling cycle and the climate of the Earth is almost entirely based on the Sun—solar radiation—along with the actions of oceans, clouds, and even volcanic activity that spews tons of particulates into the atmosphere.

Coal-fired power plants account for fifty percent of all the electricity generated in the United States. Fifty percent! And yet the EPA is determined to shut down dozens of them providing that vital factor in the lives of all Americans and the economy, nor does this take into account the billions that energy producers have spent to upgrade their technology to reduce emissions.

The Obama administration fuel economy agenda, a call for 54.5 miles per gallon ignores simple physics. There is a finite amount of energy a gallon of gas can generate. If you dilute it with ethanol as is currently required, you get even less mileage. The administration is trying to circumvent Congress by issuing standards based on regulating “greenhouse gas emissions”, but there is no need for this. It is a false argument. The Center for Automotive Research says that the proposed new standards would cause the retail price of average motor vehicles to increase by more than $11,000.

Americans and the nation’s future are being victimized by Obama administration policies. The 18th annual Index of Economic Freedom, was released on January 12th by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal, measures the many factors that contribute to the economic health of a nation—things like property rights, regulatory efficiency, open markets, free trade and labor policies.

Economic freedom is declining worldwide as governments try to spend their way out of the global recession. The United States fell to 10th place. In 2009 it ranked 6th, in 2010 it was 8th, and in 2011, it was 9th.

We are witnessing the deliberate murder of a superpower.

Sunday Musings

OWS:  I must admit that I am completely baffled by the whole OWS thing.  Watching adults [or children pretending to be adults] mindlessly parrot a leaders vocals, no matter what is being said, is the most idiotic thing I have witnessed in my lifetime.  The dhimmis have made a blunder by endorsing the movement as the appeal is to the progressive, anacrchist left.  Someone has given bad advice to Obamar and the dhimmis, as, I believe, the middle of the country is reviled by the idiots seen on TV nightly.  How interesting that he movement is almost entirely white.  I would think that some supposedly smart dhimmi advisor would have recruited more blacks from the union ranks to get in there and get some more face time on the news programs, especially the big three newscasts and morning programs.
Iraq Pullout:  Mixed feelings here as I have been against the prolonged establishment of democracy crap for years, and the absolute rollover to Iran inside Iraq responsible for the killing and wounding of our troops for a long time.  The Turks will now go after the Kurds with Iraq powerless to stop them [what is to be the U.S. response to that move, considering our deteriorating relations with Islamist Turkey] while the Shiites are happy to rule the rest of Iraq with Iran pulling the strings.  Religious warfare is the only result, so it is better we are gone.  Now, how about Afghanistan? How much longer to waste blood and treasure there?

Farewell, Tito

The seemingly endless charade that was billed as the dueling press conferences by Red Sox management and Tito Francona are , mercifully, over.
Tito is gone and mangement has embarked on their biggest repair job yet, to wit, where do we find a manager with cache, an undying adoration of stats, and an ability to cajole, coerce, or otherwise corral a bunch of fat, overpaid , egotistical, lazy louts and convince them that they are paid to perform, not just arrive and go thru the motions.

Tito, as demonstrated in his dual appearance with Theo, is a broken man.  A leader turned upon by his men.  The worst fate a leader can endure. The troops knew halfway thru the season that Tito was dog meat when no renewal of the contract was forthcoming from upstairs, and promptly went into 'me' mode.  It appears that only a few carried on [Ellsbury  Pedroia  to name two] while the rest waited for the axe to fall on Tito.

I am no fan of Tito Francona.  I have criticized him for years on his coddling of players [the players manager] and his utter failure to school the troops in the fundamentals most learned in Little League.  He was unable or unwilling to manufacture a run when needed depending on the 'big hit' to get him thru.  The lack of conditioning and a lax spring training can be traced as a primary cause for the swoon, but the attitude of the team was the primary factor.

I thought that the press was sorely lacking, especially in the management presser.  Even though they knew that the answers were to be pure bullsh.t, the questions were not asked:

1.  Theo, as GM, were you aware of the drinking going on during games, and if so, what did you do about it? Answer:  We are aware that some modification of the clubhouse culture must be addressed before next season.

2.  Larry,  Tito threw management under the bus just before he left.  Can you comment.  We are aware, suprised as I am that Tito said that, that some modification of clubhouse culture must be addressed bsfore next season.

3.  Tom, why didn't management offer Tito an extension either in the Spring, or, at least in July?
We were not sure that Tito wanted an extension, so we waited until the seaon was over to discuss it, which we did this morning.  This is our normal procedure.  It turned out that we were correct in our assessment of his intentions.

I can't go on.

Da Red Sox and Other Things

Watched with fascination the Red Sox - Francona saga yesterday.  No doubt that Tito was paid off to mouth the "I'm tired and want to go to bed" lines we heard [until he slipped at the end and threw management uinder the bus].  Have never been a Tito fan for two reasons.  A:  I disagreed with his Mr. Nice Guy approach and thought that it would bite him in the a$$ eventually [seems I am correct], and, B:  I disagreed with his big hit philosophy which neglected developing fundamental skills by the team which, many times, cost them games by failing to be able to manufacture one run when needed, not to mention that the man is basically unable to handle pitchers.
The Sox will hire a Theo clone who will be utterly dependent on metrics.  Do not be surprised when Theo's computer, Carmine, fills out the lineup card.
The utter failures of upper management oveer the last two years left plenty of room for firings, however, as we all know,  the big boys rarely go, only the middle managers.

It ain't over till it's over

Red Sox - It's so over!
Fire Theo!  Fire Tito!  Sack Lackey and Crawford!  Lynch the pink hats!  Trash the sweet caroline CD!  Bring back John Kiley! Where is Pedro when we need him?  I know he was ready.  Bruce Chen instead of Pedro, ridiculous!

Red Sox Sattelite Falls

NASA announced today that the space junk, once orbiting as the Boston Red Sox, will fall to earth in Baltimore, MD sometime Tuesday or Wednesday.  Potential casualties may include Theo Epstein, Tito Francona, and John Lackey.  It is predicted that numerous pink hats will also go down, accompanied by a wave and Sweet Caroline.  (Note: NESN feverishly plugging the Bruins pre-season game on Thursday - I wonder why)

Patriots Debacle Critique

This will be short and sweet.  I am sure I will see BB's presser tonite and he will say that the team was deficient in all three phases of the game.  Then he will depart from the stage, and the Patriots press will roll over for him again, "The greatest coach dere evah was".

As I said after game one, "We got no defense".  As I said after game two, "We got no defense".
I say after game three, "We got no defense".  We also got no offensive coordinator, and dare I say the heresy, we got no defensive coordinator or coach or guru or whatever you want to call this guy!  One maybe two blitzes the entire game leaves the D backfield, made up of who are those guys, hanging out to dry.  Bend, don't break finally broke, and every offensive coach in the league is salivating to play the Pats.

As for the offense, how does a coach watch his team go up 21-0, and then fail to capitalize by burying the Bills before the half is over.  I know, let's show the Bills our running game.  That will surely impress them.  So what if we are 3rd and nine.

Enough,  I need to get ready for John Lackey and the Sox/Yankees.  Let's see - lose tonite and we are tied with Tampa for the wild card with three to go.  I'm syched.

They are only the troops, therefore expendable

What the hell are we doing still fighting in Afghanistan?  31 more this morning sacrificed on the altar of progressive foreign policy.  Even in Vietnam, the ultimate aim was victory, no matter how screwed up the plan, how inept were the commanders and planners.  Afghanistan and Iraq linger on, without a rational objective, a little American blood spilled each day in the name of establishing democracy for a population that considers their greatest achievement the move from spears and clubs to Ak-47's and IED's. Only the local papers and TV stations taking note of their own casualties [the funeral is covered, taps is played, the flag is folded and given to the survivors] until a tragic event such as today grabs national headlines for a day or two, and then we go back to sleep, blissfully unaware of the daily cost of national treasure, primarily the lives and well being of the troops, who sacrifice daily.  Who, what slimy politician in the WH or congress, speaks for the troops?  No one.

AN OPEN LETTER TO
PRESIDENT OBAMA

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have  lived and unlike
Any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I  know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for  your expensive
Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and  housing with no
Visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative  years of youth
Growing up in America and culturally you are not an  American.

You scare me because you have never run a company or  met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military  experience, thus
Don't understand it at its core.

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class',  always blaming others.

You scare me because for over half your life you  have aligned
Yourself with radical extremists who hate America   and you refuse to
Publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see   America fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the  'blame America '
Crowd and deliver this message abroad.

You scare me because you want to change America to a  European style
Country where the government sector dominates  instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health  care system
With a government controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to  responsibly
Capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale  reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American  capitalist goose
That lays the golden egg which provides the highest  standard of
Living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use  'extortion' tactics
Against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party  shrinks from
Challenging you on your wild and irresponsible  spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to  or even consider
Opposing points of view from intelligent  people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you  are both
Omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass  on everything
You do.

You scare me because you demonize and want to  silence the
Limbaugh's, Hannitys, O'Reillys and Becks who offer  opposing,
Conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over  governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second  term I will
Probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Lou Pritchett

Gotta Luv the Dhimmis

Ex-guv Baldacci of Maine landed a do nothing job in DC at 165 big ones.

I wrote a sarcastic letter to the dhimmi columnist, Bill Nemitz at the PPH, asking him to write a column protesting the political nepotism [a while back the new guv of Maine, a repub, hired his daughter and Nemitz went ballistic with all the other dhimmis].  Here is my letter:

"Dear Bill:

I breathlessly await your column exposing the political nepotism in the Obama administration, to wit, the Baldacci scandal reportedly worth some $165,000 or somewhere in that vicinity.

I know that you are as outraged as I am that such shenanigans could occur in the most transparent of administrations.  There is a problem with taking this on, however.  The entire Maine congressional delegation is in FAVOR of the move!  Left, right, and center are complicit in this egregious rip off of the taxpayers that is nothing but a bland disguise of a political payoff [perhaps a camouflage to help with the windmill scam, but don't quote me on that one]  You might also reveal the ex-guv's state pension details just to further enrage the public.  Is it fair to make a comparison of Dirigo to military medical care?

Anyway, I await your fire and brimstone column.  It will take courage to launch same, but I have witnessed your journalistic bravery in action before, so I have faith.

Perhaps a sit-in at the Pentagon, complete with nasty signs, drums, and thuggish behavior would help send the message of despair rampant among the taxpaying, working public.

All the best,

Tom O'Reilly
South Portland"

I Am Pi$$ed

Just paid close to $40 for slightly under 12 gal of reg unleaded @ 3.38 at Sam's.  Saw gas yesterday for $3.54.
Obamar won't let us drill;
won't call the Frankfurt assassin a terrorist;
won't let the Border Patrol use their own judgement in a firefight;
won't call out the Madison thugs.

The guy is a 100% loser.  See here for more.

Back In The Saddle

I have decided to resume blogging after a year of no posts.  This gives me a chance to vent and have some fun.  Of course, I realize that no one knows I have a blog, nor would anyone bother to read it.

This morning I found a post on the net re demographics and the results of excessive welfare costs up thru 2040.  I sent it to my daughter with some comments.  Here it is:

'Very interesting take on the future of America, especially in light of the current goings-on in Wisconsin [an early skirmish?].

Having witnessed the white migration to the suburbs in the late 40's and into the 50's, to be replaced by the black migration from the south to fill the row houses of the northeast vacated by the white veterans of WWII, I am sympathetic to the ideas of the writer condemning the whites to minority status prior to 2050.  The birth rates do not lie, nor do the northward flow from Mexico of the poor , uneducated, welfare bound peasants seeking the golden goose of America [I am reminded of the song 'Only In America' sung by the Puerto Rico immigrants in 'West Side Story'].

I also agree that the transition will not be bloodless.  The progressive whites, consumed by their genetic 'white guilt' will roll over, dhimmi style, while desperately trying to maintain some semblance of intellectual and monetary superiority. Meanwhile, what is left of the 'conservative' white community, mostly rural, throughout the Northeast, Central and middle South, and the agricultural center and West, will probably fight for survival against a federal, and in some cases state government that they perceive has bled them dry to coddle the welfare class.

Note what I have been concerned about ever since the abolition of the draft.  The military is almost all white!  Where does the military go when the internal ethnic conflicts in America turn violent.

I will be gone, but you will still be around in 2040, probably looking forward to your retirement benefits starting at age 74, hoping you don't develop some form of cancer or other life threatening disease that brings you before the DHHS evaluation panels that determine your viability [and cost worthiness] to society.

Two things that are not really discussed in the blog:

A)  The potential, but in my opinion, collision of black and NAM, which seemingly will be won by the NAM, strictly by demographics.  Will this then create an alliance between surviving whites and the upper echelons of the black community that have achieved some semblance of prosperity, only to be bled dry by governmental decreed re-distribution of wealth?

B)  The coming religious conflict between Islam and everybody else, the concept of same is conveniently pushed under the rug by the progressive elite dhimmis as non-PC.  The violence erupts in Europe and the UK first (see America Alone by Mark Steyn) and the resulting Islamification there will have serious after effects on North America [note the ABA and ACLU recently coming out for the recognition of Sharia law for use in Muslim communities in the US,  The drip, drip, drip of surrender to Islam continues, led by the progressive elite].

Either way, I worry about my children and grand-children in the America of the mid 21st
century.'
